Taipei (ANTARA News/CNA) - The Rainbow Warrior III, the flagship of environmental campaign group Greenpeace, arrived in northern Taiwan`s Keelung Port Monday for a port call.

The 855-ton vessel, which departed from Hong Kong`s Victoria Harbor, was welcomed into the port by Taiwanese ritual temple performances.

The ship, which will also travel to southern Taiwan`s Tainan and to outlying Green Island during its 10-day stay in Taiwanese waters, will be open to the public Aug. 3-4 at Keelung and Aug. 10-11 at Anping Port in Tainan.

Close to 20 crew members and volunteers from 15 countries are traveling aboard the Netherlands-registered ship.

Derek Nicholls, the New Zealand captain of the flagship, said he was impressed by the welcome performance at the port and believes that future missions of Greenpeace will go well with the blessings it received from around the world.

The third-generation Rainbow Warrior showcases green technology as part of Greenpeace`s efforts to promote the concept of energy saving, according to Greenpeace.

The previous version of the Rainbow Warrior first visited Taiwan in 2011 on a tour of East Asia to promote the protection of oceanic life, the environmental group said.
