The number received from this sector was up 35.18 percent compared to the same period last year..."Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Bali exported US$50.47 million worth of sculptures and various wood handicraft souvenirs by local artists during the first five months of 2013.
"The number received from this sector was up 35.18 percent compared to the same period last year, which reached US$37.34 million," Bali spokesman I Ketut Teneng said here on Saturday.
Significant improvements were also found in terms of the volume of shipments, as he said shipments of sculptures and various wood handicraft souvenirs had increased 63.95 percent from 20.86 million units in the first five months of 2012 to 34.20 million units during the same period this year.
The wooden handicraft souvenirs contributed 23.27 percent of Bali`s total exports, which earned US$216.92 million.
Teneng added that 52.67 percent of the statues were exported to Malaysia, while the US received 14.61 percent.
The remaining exports were sent to France (3.06 percent), UK (2.79 percent), Spain (2.31 percent), Japan (2.20 percent), Germany (2.04 percent), Australia (1.80 percent), Singapore (0.38 percent) and Hong Kong (0.03 percent).
Meanwhile, 18.13 percent of the exports were sent to other countries.
Benoa Harbor handled 52.72 percent of total exports, while the remainder was sent through a number of ports in East Java, Central Java and Jakarta, Teneng said.
