Rahudman had been charged with involvement in the embezzlement of Rp2.071 billion in state fund when he was the secretary of South Tapanuli district administration in 2005.
Medan (ANTARA News) - The Special Corruption Court of Medan on Thursday declared city mayor Rahudman Harahap not guilty of all corruption charges.

Rahudman had been charged with involvement in the embezzlement of Rp2.071 billion in state fund when he was the secretary of South Tapanuli district administration in 2005.

The presiding judge Sugianto, reading the court decision, said the court found no evidence proving that the suspect took part in signing the document for the disbursement of the fund.

Neither was there evidence that he had received part of the fund, according to the decision of the court.

In addition, Rahudman no longer held the position as the secretary of the South Tapanuli district administration by the time the fund was disbursed, the court pointed out.

Therefore, the special corruption court declared him not guilty of all charges ruled rehabilitation of his good name.

The public prosecutor from the Padang Sidempuan prosecution office Dwi Aries Sudarto said he was still thinking over whether to appeal the verdict.

The prosecutor had demanded a four years` jail term for the non active mayor with payments of a fine of Rp500 million and a loss compensation of Rp480 million to the state.

The prosecutor charged Rahudman with embezzling the state fund with Amrin Tambunan, former treasurer of the South Tapanuli district administration.

Amrin was tried separately by the Padang Sidempuan district court, and had returned Rp1.5 billion of the fund to the state.(*)
