Sabang, Aceh (ANTARA News) - Forty-five divers hoisted the Indonesian red-and-white flag under the sea at Rubiah Island in Sabang, Aceh province, in commemoration of Indonesia`s 68th Independence Day on Saturday.

The divers represented the Ocean Diving Club Unsyiah, personnel of police special force "Gegana Polri" and the Navy, according to the organizing committee chairman, Maulia Oktari Noor.

Sabang mayor Zulkifli H Adam saw off the divers at Iboih Beach tourist resort in Weh Island, Sabang, on Saturday morning.

"The red-and-white flag hoisting under the sea, followed by traditional dance `likok pulo`, was aimed at showing a sense of nationalism to support the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)," Maulia said.

Mayor of Sabang city Zulkifli H Adam said he appreciated the national red-and white undersea flag hoisting, which he called a creative way to commemorate Indonesian Independence Day. (*)
