Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The second Congress of Indonesian Diaspora (CID) commenced on Sunday and received 3,880 participants, said Chairman of the organising committee Wahid Supriyadi.

The congress will end on August 20. Visitors at the event can participate in public discussions, charity events, and education, culinary, and travel exhibitions.

"The aim of the event is to come up with concrete recommendations, which will then be given to related ministries in Indonesia. Among the themes discussed in this year`s meeting are dual citizenship for Indonesians staying abroad, the power of the Indonesian diaspora abroad, and Indonesia as an emerging power in the world," he explained.

In addition, former Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla will lead the tribute ceremony to honour Syeikh Muhammad Yusuf, who was an ulema in South Africa`s Kampung Makassar area and of Indonesian descent, on August 19.

The first Congress of Indonesian Diaspora was held in Los Angeles, the United States, last July 6-8. During the congress, participants announced the establishment of the Indonesian Diaspora Network (IDN), to gather Indonesians living abroad and increase their contribution to their home country.

Currently, there are 55 IDNs in 26 countries in the world, including Australia, Qatar, Taiwan, Bahrain, Malaysia, and Germany.
