Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Finance Minister Regulation (PMK), issued by the Indonesian ministry, on the administration of imports from the Northern Territory of Australia at Indonesian customs areas other than Java and Sumatra was issued here on Tuesday.

PMK Number 118/PMK.04/2013 was issued to create various provisions for Indonesian customs areas accepting imports from the Northern Territory of Australia. Customs areas on the island of Java and Sumatra fall under PMK Number 177/PMK.04/2010.

The original agreement between the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, the Indonesian Ministry of Finance, and the Department of the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory of Australia had expired on July 22, 2012.

The issuance of the PMK could improve the flow of goods and stabilize the state`s income from customs. As a result of the regulation, customs inspections can be performed outside the customs area by customs officials or other persons acting on behalf of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.

Indonesian customs areas, not including those in Java and Sumatra, that are affected by the new PMK are located in Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Eastern Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua, and West Papua.

The new regulation identified Darwin as the capital of Australia`s Northern Territory.

Under the regulation, Darwin`s customs and excise officers are permitted to conduct preliminary examinations and to issue a customs pre-inspection report to confirm that the imported goods have passed a preliminary examination.

The provisions stipulated in the PMK only apply to goods that have been loaded at seaports and airports in Darwin and have been transported directly to the final destination in Indonesia. The provisions of this regulation do not apply to goods shipped outside Indonesian customs areas.

The PMK was created in Jakarta on Aug. 2, 2013, and came into effect on Aug. 6, 2013.
