"We are saddened that a number of corporals fell as shooting targets by terrorists. This shows that the threat is real," A lawmaker from the Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) Eva Kusuma Sundari said.Semarang, C Java (ANTARA News) - A lawmaker from the Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) Eva Kusuma Sundari said Tuesday`s shooting of a police officer showed that terrorism is still a threat in Jakarta.
"We are saddened that a number of corporals fell as shooting targets by terrorists. This shows that the threat is real," Eva said via telephone on Wednesday.
On Tuesday`s night police officer first brig. Sukardi was shot dead on a Jakarta street in front of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) office.
Witnesses saw Sukardi fell on the street with his motorcycle after being shot at by his attackers, three men in two motorcycles, police said.
Earlier on the same day a another police officer first brig. Dading Bagus Martimbang was stabbed with a screwdriver in the head although he was not seriously injured.
Last month two police officers were shot dead by unknown men, in Pondok Aren on Jakarta`s outskirt.
Terrorists have taken their revenge on police for the death of many of their friends in clashes with police anti terror squad, observers said.
Eva said the incident occurred when an international anti terrorism meeting is convened at the defense ministry.
She said she hopes the security agencies including the state intelligence agency, the military strategic intelligence and police`s special anti terror squad could cooperate closely and find a new strategy to deal with the new tactic adopted by terrorists.
She also said tighter isolation is needed for terrorist convicts to ensure that they had no opportunity to maintain communications with their friends still at large.(*)
