"They came to say that they support the program," Deputy Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The World Health Organization (WHO) appreciates and supports Jakarta city`s program of free medical treatment for the poor.

A WHO`s team has studied the program for months and found it appreciable.

"They came to say that they support the program," Deputy Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said after receiving a visit by the team here on Wednesday.

Basuki said WHO appreciates the program mainly as it it designed for the poor

"Therefore, WHO hopes that the program already implemented in Jakarta could be used as model by other regions in the country," he said.

Head of the Jakarta health service Dien Emmawati said the WHO team came to Jakarta as they wanted to see how the program is implemented in the field.

"They wanted to see how well the program is implemented including and the process of payment to hospitals," Dien said.

She said so far WHO has not given criticism if they have of the program as they still want to carry out further studies.

"They only said they support the program and hoped that it could be implemented through out the country," she added. (*)
