Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s national basketball men`s team was crushed by Turkey`s team 34-79 at the third Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) here on Wednesday night.

The severe loss caused the host country`s team failed to proceed to next step in effort to grab medals because the national team has only one victory after it defeated Saudi Arabia.

The national basketball team was previously defeated by a slight margin of 66-68 by Palestine in the first day of matches here on Sunday (Sept 15).

The host country`s team only has one victory when it previously defeated Saudi Arabia`s team.

According to the national coach Tjetjep Firmansyah, the loss of the Indonesia`s team against Turkey`s under-18 world champion, should become a good lesson to improve the country`s team performance in the future.

Tjetjep on Tuesday (Sept 17) said, "Playing against the world`s top team is a rare opportunity, so it will become a learning event in preparation for the SEA Games in Myanmar later this year."

After being defeated by Turkey, the host team will focus on playing against Kuwait in effort to reach bronze medal.

Basketball has become the opening game of the Third Islamic Solidarity Games that would officially be opened on September 22.

Five out of 44 countries participated in the basketball matches namely Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Palestine and Indonesia.

A total of 44 countries are taking part in the sporting event of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) that will last until October 1, 2013.

Member countries participating in the event are Algeria, Azerbaijan, Brunei Darussalam, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Guinea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Morocco, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, and Tajikistan.

Turkmenistan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Yemen, Guinea, Mauritania, Gambia, Nigeria, Jordan, Togo, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Cameroon, Mozambique, Lebanon, Tunisia, Somalia, Bahrain, Djibouti, Bangladesh and Chad are also participating in the games.
