"Amir Hamzah is being questioned in connection with the bribery case involving suspect TCW (Tubagus Chaeri Wardana)," KPK`s head of information Priharsa Nugraha said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has grilled Lebak district head candidate Amir Hamzah in connection with his alleged involvement in a bribery case implicating non-active Constitutional Court Chief Judge Akil Mochtar.

"Amir Hamzah is being questioned in connection with the bribery case involving suspect TCW (Tubagus Chaeri Wardana)," KPK`s head of information Priharsa Nugraha said on Wednesday.

Hamzah, who is the deputy head of the Lebak district in the Banten province for the 2008 to 2013 term did not make any statement to newsmen upon his arrival at the KPK Building.

The KPK had banned Hamzah and his running mate Kasmin from traveling abroad after October 7. On Monday, the KPK questioned his two adjutants.

Hamzah and Kasmin are supported by the Golkar Party, which had filed a complaint in the Constitutional Court regarding the results of a vote counting released by the local General Election Commission, which were in favor of the party`s rivals Iti Octavia Jayabaya and Ade Sumardi.

A panel of judges led by Akil Mochtar decided on October 1 to grant Hamzah`s appeal and had ordered that the vote be recounted.

KPK had also banned Banten`s governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah from traveling abroad after October 3, in connection with the case.

Several members of Chosiyah`s family currently hold public office in the region, as well as at a national level, including her husband Hikmat Tomet, who is a member of parliament; Andhika Hazrumy, her first child is a member of the Banten Regional Representative Council and Ade Rosi Khairunnisa, Hazrumy`s wife is the deputy chairman of the Serang Legislative Assembly.

Chosiyah`s second child, Andiara Aprilia Hikmat, is currently seeking a parliamentary position, along with her husband Tanto Warsono Arban.

The Banten governor`s stepmother Heryani is the deputy head of the Pandeglang district, the governor`s sister Ratu Tatu Chassanah is the deputy head of the Serang district.

Tubagus Chaerul Jaman is Chosiyah`s stepbrother and is the mayor of Serang, while Airin Rachmi Diany, the wife of Tubagus Chaeri Wardana is now mayor of Tangerang Selatan.

The KPK had arrested and named Akil Mochtar as a suspect for receiving bribes in connection with the case relating to the disputed results of district head elections in Gunung Mas in Central Kalimantan and Lebak in Banten.

Mochtar was caught red-handed at his official residence in Patra Kuningan, along with parliamentary member Chairul Nissa from the Golkar Party and businessman Conerlis Nalau.

The KPK has also named Hambit Bintih and Cornelis as suspects in the Gunung Mas case.

In the Lebak case, the KPK has also named lawyer Susi Tur Handayani and Tubagus Chaeri Wardana as suspects. (*)
