Kendari, S.E. Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - A grandmother, identified as Wa Guda (70), died in a garden here on Thursday, after being struck by a falling tree as a result of strong winds, a witness stated.

According to Kuti, a male resident of the Tobea Island, in South East Sulawesi District of Muna, the victim died on the spot.

"The grandmothers family was apprehensive, as the victim had not yet returned home from the garden. The family got anxious, as the grandmother usually arrived back home before the Maghrib prayer (in the evening)," Kuti noted, adding that the garden is about a kilometer from Wa Gudas house.

In the past few days, strong winds followed by torrential rains hit the island of "Pulau Tobea Besar" in the Muna district.

During the heavy downpour, the residents of the Tobea Island, mostly fishermen, normally take a break from their fishing activities as a safety measure.(*)
