Pati, Central Java (ANTARA News) - Pati District Head Haryanto has stated that around one thousand residents are affected by floods in the district.

"There were 600 refugees listed earlier. It now increases to one thousand," stated Haryanto while visiting refugees shelters in Juwana District Office, here, on Friday.

Haryanto claimed that he had sent relief aid consisting of among other tings 10 tons of rice, 500 packets of instant noodles, 350 biscuits, cooking oil and LPG to the refugees in Juwana District. The medical post has also been set up.

"We sent logistical needs for many in Juwana District since it is the worst flood affected area. If there is any shortage, it is natural because the number of refugees has been continuously increasing," he explained.

Haryanto added that the Pati Regency Administration along with the ranks of the military, police and the Regional Disaster Management Board (BPBD) of Pati had evacuated people whose houses were inundated by the floods.

"We will continue to coordinate with the relevant parties to handle the flood situation as well as the refugees," he pointed out.

To minimize the flooding in future, the Pati Regency Administration had budgeted funds for the normalization of the two rivers in 2014.

"For the normalization of Juwana River we budgeted Rp14 billion, while for the Simo River, it was Rp3 billion," he pointed out.
