The first lady lauded the female refugees at the shelter for their artistically crafted woven mats, chopsticks, and rice containers, which are frequently used by the Karo people.
Ani visited the Kabanjahe Great Mosque to inspect the shelters and get first-hand information about the condition of the refugees.
The first ladys visit to the shelter and her warm interaction with the inhabitants instilled a sense of pride in the refugees.
The Sinabung Disaster Mitigation Data Center in Kabanjahe noted that the total refugees housed at the Kabanjahe Great Mosque were 747 people or 224 families, comprising 89 elders, six pregnant women, and 80 babies.
Ani also made it a point to visit the refugee shelters in the Asrama Kodim Church, St Petrus Church, and Paulus Church in Kabanjahe.
The First Lady accompanied President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to the Mount Sinabung Refugee Camp in Kabanjahe, along with State Secretary Minister Sudi Silalahi, Coordinator Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Djoko Suyanto, and Coordinator Minister of Public Welfare Agung Laksono.
Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi, Indonesian Military Commander General Moeldoko, and Indonesian Police Chief General Sutarman also accompanied the President during his visit to the Mount Sinabung Refugee Camp.(*)
