A 37-year-old Japanese survivor, identified as Saori Furukawa, was evacuated from the Nusa Lembongan Sea, after she had lost contact since Friday, February 14.
After reaching the Air Force base, Furukawa was rushed to the Kasih Ibu Hospital near the Ngurah Rai Airport. She was identified as an experienced diving instructor, who lived in 7-A Bougenvile Residence, Raya Pamongan Street, Denpasar.
Five of the seven Japanese tourists had reportedly survived, after going amiss while diving around the Jungut Batu Mangrove Forest in the Nusa Lembongan Sea, on Friday (Feb. 12).
Until Monday evening, the Search and Rescue (SAR) team were involved in the evacuation of the four Japanese survivors. The evacuation efforts were hindered due to the difficult terrain, while the other two divers are still missing.
According to Head of the Potential Section of Denpasars SAR Gede Armada, the tourists were reported missing on Friday (Feb. 14), at 7:00 p.m. local time.
All the tourists were female. They were diving in the waters of Nusa Lembongan, on Friday, at around 1:30 p.m. local time, but failed to surface at the end of their dive at 2:00 p.m. local time.
The tourist operator, who brought the Japanese tourists to the Nusa Lembongan diving spot, had combed the location, but failed to find them.
