Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta composite index closes higher on Tuesday as foreign investors began to buy more shares.

The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) rose 0.37 percent to close at 4,601.28 points with the index of 45 most liquid stocks up 0.35 percent to 772.49 points.

Anugerah Sekurindo Indahs analyst Bertoni Rio said the BEI index is expected to rise further on Wednesday

Kresna Securities analyst, Etta Rusdiana Putra attributed the increase in the BEI index partly to positive regional sentiment after being under pressure on Ukraine crisis.

There were 199,459 transactions at the BEI with 3.34 billion shares worth Rp4.54 trillion changing hands in Tuesday trading.

Gainers outnumbered decliner by 181:121 with 89 shares unchanged.

Regional markets such as Hang Seng recorded a 0.9 percent increase in index to 22,657.63, with Nikkei index up 0.47 percent to 14,721.48 points and that of Straits Times rose 0.49 percent to 3,102.70. (*)
