Medan (ANTARA News) - Democratic Party (PD) General Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) is scheduled to attend the PD campaign in North Sumatra next Friday (March 28).

"The out-door campaign rally, which will be held at the Merdeka Square, will be attended by Yudhoyono," PDs Secretary for Medan branch Tahan Manahan Panggabean said here over the weekend.

Apart from Yudhoyono, who is also the incumbent Indonesian president, a number of PD executives from the central board in Jakarta will also attend the campaign.

Among the executives of the PD who will act as the partys campaigners are PD Secretary General Edhie Baskoro and PDs daily executive chairman Syarif Hasan.

The campaign is expected to be attended by thousands of PD cadres and supporters.

"The campaign will be held in the afternoon," Panggabean said.

In his capacity as the president, Yudhoyono is also scheduled to inaugurate North Sumatras Kualanamu International Airport on March 27, 2014.

Last Friday, when campaigning in Karawang, West Java, Yudhoyono entertained party cadres and sympathizers by singing a song.

The president, who is popularly known by the abbreviated version of his name, SBY, arrived at the location of the rally at Telega Mulya village accompanied by his wife Mrs. Ani Yudhoyono, son Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, party executive chairman Syarif Hasan, and parliament member Saan Mustopa.

More than a thousand attendees, who were able to enter the rally area, were entertained by his song titled "our home."

Many other cadres and sympathizers failed to gain entry into the field where the rally was organized due to overcrowding, which led to the main access roads being blocked.

A total of 12 national political parties have been launching a 21-day campaign activities since March 16 to vie for the votes of 185.8 eligible voters in the upcoming April 9 legislative elections next month.

The 12 electoral parties to take part in the upcoming elections include the National Democratic Party (Nasdem), the National Awakening Party (PKB), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the Indonesian Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), the Golkar Party (Golkar), and the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra).

The line-up also includes the Democratic Party (Demokrat), the National Mandate Party (PAN), the United Development Party (PPP), the Peoples Conscience Party (Hanura), the Crescent Star Party (PBB) and the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI).
