If I am no longer a minister I will use my energy and ideas to help areas that have no electricity."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan is prepared to dedicate himself to developing power stations in areas that have no electricity if he is not re-elected as a minister in the next government.
"If I am no longer a minister I will use my energy and ideas to help areas that have no electricity," he said at his office here on Tuesday.
The former president director of the state electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said the areas that had no electrical connection may receive power from renewable energy-based power stations.
Dahlan, who is also participating in the Democratic Partys presidential convention, made the statement in response to a shortfall in the Democratic Partys vote tally in the April 9 legislative election based on quick vote counts by several pollsters.
The quick vote count by the Jakarta-based pollster, the Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI), showed that the ruling party finished fourth with 10.12 percent of the votes, losing to the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) with 19.45 percent, the Golkar Party with 15.32 percent and the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party with 11.76 percent.
By garnering nearly 10 percent of the votes, the Democratic Party is unlikely to nominate its presidential candidate for the July 9 election.
The Presidential Election Law requires a political party or a coalition of parties to win a minimum 25 percent of the popular vote or 20 percent of the seats in the House of Representatives to nominate a presidential candidate.
Dahlan also agreed to a call for an end to the Democratic Partys presidential convention.
