This announcement aims to remind Indonesians to prevent the danger of the deadly virus.Cairo (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Embassy in Cairo called on Indonesians living in Egypt to be careful not to get infected by the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) that has killed 102 people in Saudi Arabia, an official stated.
"This announcement aims to remind Indonesians to prevent the danger of the deadly virus," Chief of Protocol and Consul Affairs at Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, Nugroho Yuwono Aribimo, stated here on Wednesday.
According to Yuwono, all Indonesians living in Cairo should be aware of their health conditions and immediately check with a doctor if they experience symptoms such as fever, cough and difficulty in breathing.
"Citizens must carry with them hand sanitizers and antiseptic tissue to clean their hands after spending time outdoors. They must also wear face masks in public places such as traditional markets, airports or seaports in Egypt," Yuwono added.
Last Friday (April 25), the Egyptian Health Ministry reported that a citizen, who had just returned from Saudi Arabia, was infected by the MERS virus. Following the first finding, the Egyptian government has increased observatory efforts at airports and seaports to screen people coming into the country, especially those who come from Saudi Arabia.
In Saudi Arabia alone, about 102 people have died and 339 others have been reported as infected by MERS virus.(*)
