Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta Police here on Tuesday summoned Timothy Carr, the principal of the Jakarta International School (JIS), for further questioning in connection with a sodomy case involving a kindergartener from the school.

"We want to know the education pattern there (in JIS) and how much he knew about the case," the Jakarta Polices Criminal Investigation Director Senior Commissioner Heru Pranoto remarked here on Tuesday.

Carr was summoned as a witness. On April 26, he was also grilled at the Jakarta Police headquarters.

Earlier, the six-year-old sodomized victims mother along with his kindergarten teacher, Murphy, and assistant teacher, Lusiana Christia, had also been called in for questioning by the police.

The police have named six suspects in the sexual assault that occurred in the toilet of JIS.

The suspects are Zainal, Agun, Virgiawan, Syahrial, Afriska, and Azwar, who recently committed suicide in a police toilet.

The victim, who was five years old when sexually assaulted in February and March, was raped by the schools cleaning staff members during school hours in the bathroom near his classroom. The child who was locked inside the toilet during his ordeal contracted herpes and a bacterial infection after being sodomized.

The familys lawyer Andi Asrun emphasized that the boys parents strongly felt that the school should have been aware of the boys absence from class, and his teachers should have noticed that he was in distress when he rejoined the class.

The boys parents have filed a civil lawsuit against the school and the Education and Culture Ministry.

"We have filed a lawsuit against JIS as defendant I and the Education and Culture Ministry as defendant II," reported the parents lawyer, O.C. Kaligis, on April 21, 2014.

Besides being negligent in protecting the child, the JIS has been operating the kindergarten illegally because the Indonesian Education and Culture Ministrys Letter No. 0348/0/1977, only gave permission to the prestigious school to set up elementary, junior, and senior high schools, but not a kindergarten.

The lawyer has also filed a civil lawsuit against the ministry for being negligent in supervising the international school, which has opened a kindergarten without a permit.(*)
