KPU will open registration of presidential-vice presidential candidates on May 18 to 20.
Jakarta, May 12 (Antara) - The General Election Commission (KPU) has began preparing the implementation of the upcoming presidential and vice presidential elections, providing information for the political parties on registration requirements for candidates they want to nominate.

"We have sent circular letters to political parties so that they can prepare documents needed for registration of presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs," said the KPU chairman, Husni Kamil Manik here on Monday.

KPU will open registration of presidential-vice presidential candidates on May 18 to 20.

"The required documents for presidential and vice presidential registration include those on health condition, supports from the political party or joint political parties and the number of won parliamentary seats," Husni stated.

A political party or a group of political parties wishing to register or submit a presidential-vice presidential pair should have won at least 20 percent of the 560 seats or 112 seats of the House of Representatives (DPR).

The political party or group of political parties can also name presidential and vice presidential candidates if they won 25 percent or 31.2 million votes of the total valid votes in the legislative elections.

In accordance with the KPU announcement Number 416/KPU/V/2014, registration for the presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs will be opened from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the KPU central office in Jalan Imam Bonjol no.29, Central Jakarta.

The KPU on Friday night (May 9) announced the official results of April 9 legislative elections with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) in the first place winning 18.95 percent of the votes.

Following is the list of the 2014 legislative election results:

1. National Democrat Party (NasDem): 8,402,812 (6.72 percent)

2. National Awakening Party (PKB): 11,298,957 (9.04 percent)

3. Prosperous Justice Party (PKS): 8,480,204 (6.79 percent)

4. Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP): 23,681,471 (18.95 percent)

5. Golkar: 18,432,312 (14.75 percent)

6. Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindrea: 14,760,371 (11.81 percent)

7. Democrat Party (PD): 12,728,913 (10.19 percent)

8. National Mandate Party (PAN): 9,481,621 (7.57 percent)

9. United Development Party (PPP): 8,157,488 (6.53 percent)

10. Peoples Conscience Party (Hanura): 6,579,498 (5.26 percent)

11. Crescent and Star Party (PBB): 1,825,750 (1.46 percent)

12. Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKP): 1,143,094 (0.91 percent)

Valid votes in 33 provinces total 124,972,491.

With the results, two political parties failed to achieve the Parliamentary threshold of 3.5 percent of votes namely PBB and PKPI.(*)
