Indonesia bestowed Islamic development bank`s award

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesias Bandung Institute of Technologys Research and Community Service Center (LPPM-ITB) has received the Islamic Development Banks (IDB) Award in the science and technology category.

Ministry of Finances Head of Communication and Information Center Yudi Pramadi stated here on Friday that the award was the result of a comprehensive cooperation between the Finance Ministry, Fiscal Policy Department, and LPPM-ITB during the nomination and diplomacy process ahead of the event.

Yudi, on behalf of the ministry, also delivered a congratulatory message to LPPM-ITB on receiving the award.

"The Ministry of Finance will facilitate all students, academicians, and research centers in Indonesia to continue the tradition of receiving international awards in the future," he remarked.

As the award recipient of IDBs Awards in the science and technology category, LPPM-ITB received US$100 thousand prize that is expected to be used for innovation and will help to contribute to the field of science and technology for community development.

Since 2002, IDB has awarded prizes for science and technology to organizations or research centers that fulfill two categories: an outstanding contribution in science and technology for socio-economic development of the IDBs member countries and an outstanding contribution in various studies.

In 2013, Indonesia also received an IDB award for womens contribution to development that was bestowed on Tri Mumpuni for her efforts in developing the rural community through the installation of a hydroelectric power plant.

IDB is a multilateral financial institution for development, which has a key mission to reduce poverty in its member countries. One of IDBs efforts to alleviate poverty is to encourage creation and innovation by scholars and research institutions that has a positive impact on the development and prosperity of the people.

The support for creation and innovation was manifested by IDB through the IDB Awards that is held annually and the prize is delivered during the annual assembly of IDB. The awards have three categories: Womens Contribution to Development, Science and Technology and the Islamic Economics and Islamic Banking and Finance.(*)
