Silas Kipruto of Kenya defended his 2013 title by winning the mens elite category, as other long-distance runners from Kenya also dominated the race.
Kipruto touched the finish line in a time of 28 minutes and 52 seconds, better than his last years record at 29 minutes and 17 seconds, but still below his personal best of 27:28.
In the second and third places were Titus Kwemoi Masai and Charles Wachiramaina of Kenya, in a time of 29 minutes 1 second and 29 minutes 12 second respectively.
Frank Andre of Germany and Nakatani Keisuka from Japan were in the fourth and fifth places respectively.
Four Kenyan female runners dominated the womens elite category, by winning the first, second, third and fourth places. The first winner was Chemtai Ndiema in 32:28; the second winner was Sharon Jemutai Cherop in 32:41; the third winner was Viola Jepchuma in 32:46; and the fourth was Maryanne Wangari Wanjiru.
Zakia Mohamed Mrisho of Tanzania, last years champion, was in the fifth place.
The Jakarta international 10K race route included MH Thamrin - Gen. Sudirman boulevards, Semanggi Bridge as the turning-around point, and the finish line in the National Monument (Monas).
The race was divided into four categories - international elite, national elite, public, and students - with a total prize amounting Rp900 million.
The race was participated in by some 35,000 runners, including elite foreign runners from Kenya, Russia, Germany, Japan, Tanzania,
and China.
The Jakarta International 10K this year is the 11th, after receiving an official certificate from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). The Indonesian capital of Jakarta is celebrating its 487th anniversary this year.(*)
