You should not speak ill of each other."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice presidential candidates Hatta Rajasa and M. Jusuf Kalla (JK) called on their respective supporters to stage campaigns peacefully in the current fasting month.

Hatta Rajasa and JK were at the office of the General Elections Commission (KPU) here on Tuesday in connection with the announcement of the personal wealth of the presidential and vice presidential candidates by the KPU for the upcoming presidential election on July 9, 2014.

Hatta noted that the fasting month had begun on Sunday, which coincided with the ongoing presidential campaigns. So, the campaign should be carried out in a manner of mutual respect. Campaigners should not become easily provoked.

Meanwhile, JK also appealed to his supporters to carry out the campaign in a well-mannered and polite way.

According to Hatta, the campaign should not divide the ummah (Islamic solidarity) only because of differences in opinions and choices.

"Let us work with a full sense of solidarity and conduct campaign successfully," Hatta said.

Hatta, who is also the general chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), asked his supporters team to work hard in the run up to the end of the campaign period on July 5, 2014.

JK, who is a former vice president during the 2004-2009 period, reminded his supporters to conduct peaceful campaigns.

"You should not speak ill of each other," JK said.

Indonesia will be organizing a free and democratic presidential election on July 9, 2014, which will be contested by only two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates: Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa and Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-JK.

Prabowo Subianto is a retired military general and the chairman of Gerindra (Great Indonesia Movement) Party, while his running mate, Hatta Rajasa, is a former coordinating minister for economic affairs and the chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN).

Jokowi is Jakartas governor and a cadre of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), while his running mate, JK, is a former vice president and a senior politician of the Golkar Party.

The Prabowo-Hatta pair is supported by Gerindra, PAN, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the United Development Party (PPP), the Crescent and Star Party (PBB), and the Golkar Party, whose current chairman is Aburizal Bakrie, owner of TV One.

The Jokowi-JK pair is supported by five political parties: the Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), the Nation Awakening Party (PKB), the Peoples Conscience Party (Hanura), the Justice and Indonesian Unity Party (PKPI), and the National Democrats Party (Nasdem) established by Surya Paloh, owner of Metro TV and the Media Indonesia newspaper.
