Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Security situation in Indonesia remains conducive ahead of the presidential election on July 9, deputy chief of the National Police, Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti, said here on Wednesday.

"No sign of security disruptions or potential riots have been reported in the country during the election," he said before attending a meeting with the House of Representatives Commission III, overseeing law enforcement, among others.

The head of the National Polices public relations division, Inspector General Ronny Franky Sompie, said on Tuesday that the police will deploy half of its forces totaling 408,000 to secure the election.

The election will be contested by Jakarta Governor Jokowi, who pairs with former vice president Jusuf Kalla (JK), and former military figure Prabowo Subianto, with Hatta Rajasa, who is a former chief economic minister, as his running mate.

The Prabowo-Hatta pair is supported by Gerindra, PAN, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the United Development Party (PPP), the Crescent and Star Party (PBB), and the Golkar Party, the runner up of the legislative elections on April 9. Prabowo is the chief patron of Gerindra.

Gerindra had recently received formal support from the ruling Democrat Party of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Meanwhile, the Jokowi-JK pair is supported by five political parties: the PDIP, the Nation Awakening Party (PKB), the Peoples Conscience Party (Hanura), the Justice and Indonesian Unity Party (PKPI), and the National Democrat Party (Nasdem).

Jokowi is a PDIP cadre, while Jusuf Kalla is a former Golkar Party general chairman.
