Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police will deploy around 30 thousand personnel to secure the July 9 presidential election in the capital.

The personnel will also supervise the distribution of ballot papers to polling stations in the capital, chief of the metropolitan polices public relations bureau Snr. Comr. Rikwanto said here on Wednesday.

The polling stations will be secured a day ahead of the election on July 9, he said.

During the three-day cooling off period, the personnel will assist Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in removing campaign attributes, he said.

Prabowo Subianto, who is chief patron of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, will compete with nonactive Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo in the presidential race.

Prabowo was nominated by the Gerindra-led coalition of six parties, including the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Golkar Party, the Justice and Prosperous Party (PKS), the Crescent and Star Party (PBB), and the United Development Party (PPP), while Joko Widodo was nominated by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the National Democrat (Nasdem) Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB), the Peoples Conscience Party (Hanura), and the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI).

Rikwanto further said the city police had also deployed 7,200 personnel in the operation code-named "Cipta Kondisi" to create peaceful conditions while Muslims in the capital are fasting.

The operations are targeting the use of brothels, firecrackers, sharp weapons, and alcohol as well as the actions of vandals and street criminals, he said.

"The operations are also targeting illegal racing and brawls," he said.

Many people were netted during the operations but not all were involved in criminal offenses, he said.
