Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The Bukit Barisan Regional Military Command which oversees the provinces of North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau and Riau Islands has set up three command posts to help the presidential election on July 9 run smoothly.

The command posts will enable police and military personnel and volunteers to know various activities related to the election, Chief of the Bukit Barisan Regional Military Command Maj. Gen. Istu Hari Subagio said here after holding a teleconference with Army Chief of Staff Gen. Budiman on preparations to secure the presidential poll.

"There are three presidential election command posts in the territory of the Bukit Barisan Regional Military Command," he said.

He said thousands of soldiers will be stationed in different places in the four provinces during the presidential poll.

"The four provinces which are the territory of the Bukit Barisan Regional Military Command must remain secure and conducive," he said.

Indonesia will hold a presidential election on July 9, 2014 to be contested by two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates: Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa and Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-Jusuf Kalla (JK).

The Prabowo-Hatta pair is supported by Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the United Development Party (PPP), the Crescent and Star Party (PBB), and the Golkar Party.

The Jokowi-JK pair is backed by five political parties: the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the Nation Awakening Party (PKB), the Peoples Conscience Party (Hanura), the Justice and Indonesian Unity Party (PKPI), and the National Democrat Party (Nasdem).
