You have given a fair and balanced coverage of Pak (Mr) Prabowo and me."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Presidential candidate Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, lauded the international media for its balanced coverage and reporting of the presidential election in Indonesia.

"I thank you for your coverage of our campaigns and country. You have given a fair and balanced coverage of Pak (Mr) Prabowo and me. I appreciate your integrity and professionalism," he stated at a press conference at the Media Center attended by national as well as international media persons here on Thursday, a day after the election.

Jokowi pointed out that international media coverage of the event has helped to showcase Indonesia as a strong democracy.

"With the coverage, the world knows that democracy in Indonesia is strong and dynamic," he affirmed.

In the national media, Jokowi, the governor of Jakarta, expressed his appreciation for creating new history in Indonesia.

"I hope our journey together so far, especially during campaigning across Indonesia, was meaningful for all the journalists. Our journey is a struggle to write a new history in Indonesia," he emphasized.

On the occasion, Jokowi called on all sides to unite to make Indonesia a better country.

"Our task now is to guard the recapitulation process of the results of the election until they are confirmed as the official results by the KPU (the General Elections Commission). We must guard and assure that the recapitulation of vote tallies at the KPU will be correct, clean, and free of any intervention from any quarter," he noted.

Based on quick vote counts by several survey institutes, Jokowi has won the election with a margin of four to five percent. However, several other survey institutes, according to their vote counts, have announced his rival, Prabowo Subianto, as the winner of the election.

The KPU is scheduled to announce the official results of the election on July 22.
