Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) of the Jakarta Capital Region has postponed the recapitulation of votes following the recommendation by the Election Supervisory Committee (Bawaslu) to hold re-elections in 16 polling stations.

"We have postponed the recapitulation for tomorrow evening (July 19), after the ifthar dinner, in order to hold re-elections in accordance with Bawaslus recommendation," Head of Jakarta KPU Sumarno stated here on Friday.

The 16 polling stations where re-elections will be held are seven polling stations in North Jakarta, four in Central Jakarta, three in West Jakarta, and one station each in East and South Jakarta.

The re-elections must be conducted as Bawaslu indicated that the voters in those 16 polling stations were administratively invalid to vote during the presidential election on July 9.

Hence, the KPU will organize the re-elections in the morning of July 19, 2014, and the recapitulation process will be conducted in the evening.

The presidential election was contested by two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates: Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa and Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla.

The official result of Indonesias 2014 presidential election will be announced by the KPU on July 22.

According to the KPU, a total of 190,307,134 voters have been registered for the presidential election on July 9, 2014, which includes 2,038,711 overseas voters, with 486,866 polling stations set up throughout the nation.

The winning pair will be officially inaugurated as the countrys seventh president and vice president in October 2014.
