Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Political observer of Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI) R Siti Zuhro said the General Elections Commission (KPU) had performed independent and professional work in organizing the presidential election, including the national vote recapitulation meeting on Tuesday.

"In my view, KPU has worked professionally and non-partisan," said Zuhro here on Tuesday.

Zuhro noted that KPUs members had political rights as citizens, but they had suppressed it to keep their professionalism and independence.

Regarding presidential candidate Prabowo Subiantos withdrawal from presidential election process, Zuhro said she was surprised.

Zuhro also believed that the KPU had not predicted the withdrawal during the national vote recapitulation.

"No rivalry should exist after the votes tally," she said.

Hence, Zuhro expressed hope that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will act as a mediator between Prabowo and KPU to avoid any untoward incidents.

Previously, on Tuesday afternoon, Prabowo Subianto had announced his rejection of Indonesias 2014 presidential election and had withdrawn his witness team from the KPU national recapitulation meeting, following allegations of massive and systematic fraud.

KPU was mandated by the constitution to officially announce the result of presidential election on Tuesday, July 22, 2014.(*
