"The Perkasa Drill is an annual agenda of our air defense national command that aims to enhance the capability and alertness of the soldiers to defend the Indonesian sky," Chief of IV Sector National Air Defense Command First Marshall Asnam Muhidir stated here on Tuesday.
According to Asnam, hundreds of Air Force personnel from the Radar Unit, Angkasa Pura 1, Search and Rescue Agency, Manuhua Air Base, 468 Sarotama Special Forces, and Army Air Defense Unit are taking part in the exercise.
The Indonesian Air Force will conduct the drill for five days by deploying Sukhoi jet fighters, helicopters, SAR helicopters, Indonesian Air Force Boeing Airplane, and Army Air Defense Artillery howitzers.
Asnam hoped that the exercise can proceed smoothly and securely and can accomplish the required parameters by the final day.
The Air Force has also organized a static show or exhibition of combat equipment in the Manuhua Air Base of Samofa Sub-district.
"The static show will be organized by the Manuhua Air Base. The air show will be open to the public for two days on August 27-28, 2014," the chief noted.
The three Sukhoi jets mesmerized the audience by performing aerobatic maneuvers at the Biak Numfor Air Base.
