Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Foreign Affairs Minister of Indonesia Retno L.P. Marsudi and her United Arab Emirates (UAE) counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed bilateral economic cooperation, particularly in the fields of investment and trade.

"We have discussed several efforts to boost cooperation in the economic sector. The UAE is one of the important countries for Indonesia in the region, particularly for trade and investment relations," Minister Retno pointed out during a joint press statement here on Tuesday.

According to Retno, Minister Abdullah also expressed his willingness to increase investment in Indonesia.

On the occasion, the minister also explained to her counterpart that the Indonesian government is focused on improving the infrastructure of its seaports, railways, and power plants.

"We also exchanged views regarding the efforts to increase the investment of UAE in those sectors," Retno stated.

Additionally, Minister Abdullah noted that both countries have developed mutual cooperation in various sectors.

The UAE believes that sustainable cooperation reflects the sound quality of mutual synergy.

"We can see that the two countries have agreed on increasing cooperation. Thus, we want to increase the cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the trade and investment sectors," Abdullah emphasized.

The UAE foreign minister said his country is willing to review several potential investment opportunities that can be materialized between the state-owned firms.

According to data released by the Indonesian Trade Ministry, Indonesia and UAE recorded bilateral trade worth US$3.3 trillion during 2013.

The UAE had invested Rp12.6 billion in Indonesia during the first quarter of 2013.
