"The president will hold bilateral meetings with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key. The meetings will most likely take place tomorrow because today the agenda is very tight until 10 pm local time," Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto remarked on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit here on Wednesday.
During the meetings, Jokowi and his counterparts will discuss issues on bilateral relations, Widjajanto revealed.
The newly elected Indian Prime Minister Modi too, like President Jokowi, had received mass support during the elections.
On Wednesday, Jokowi met Myanmarese President U Thein Sein for some 45 minutes prior to the opening of the ASEAN Summit.
Previously, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum held in Beijing on Nov. 10-11, Jokowi held bilateral meetings respectively with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, US President Barack Obama, Vietnamese Prime Minister Truong Tan Sang, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and South Korean President Park Geun-hye.
Director General of the Indonesian Foreign Ministrys ASEAN Cooperation I. Gusti Agung Wesaka Puja earlier noted that Indonesia would highlight issues on the handling and prevention of Ebola virus in the region, counterterrorism, Indonesias vision on the maritime axis, and the post-2015 ASEAN Economic Community during the ASEAN Summit.
This years ASEAN Summit is themed, "Moving Forward in Unity to a Peaceful and Prosperous Community."
Myanmar is the second country to be visited by President Jokowi in a series of his first overseas working visits after attending the APEC meeting in Beijing, China.
The president will be visiting Myanmar for two days to meet his counterparts from other countries in the Southeast Asian region.
The summits of ASEAN+Japan, ASEAN+China, ASEAN+India, and ASEAN+Australia will be held during the ASEAN summit.
Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia are the members of the ASEAN.
