Ansor has offered such help to guard churches during Christmas days every year.
In Sumenep, East Java, the local leaders of Ansor plans to send its Multipurpose Task Force Banser to help guard local churches during Christmas and New Year celebrations
"We have coordinated with Sumenep police and they welcome the offer to guard churches," chairman of local branch of Ansor M Muhri said here on Wednesday.
Muhri said 20 members of Banser mostly those domiciling in the sub-district of Kota and nearby areas would be assigned to guard churches.
"We have thousands of Banser members, but we will send only 20 as we have arranged with police," he said.
He said involvement of Banser in taking part in maintaining security during Christmas is a realization of Ansors nationalism to safeguard the national integrity .
"Ansor and its Banser is a component of the nation with an obligation to safeguard the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). However we have to coordinate with police," he said.
Chief of the operational division of the Sumenep police Comr Edy Purwanto said police appreciated the offer from Ansor.
