Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA News) - Floods triggered by heavy rains over the past few days have forced thousands of people in North Aceh district to evacuate.

"Continuous rain, even until this afternoon, has caused the floods to spread to more areas. While more and more people have fled their homes, there have not been reports about missing persons or fatalities," spokesman for the North Aceh district government Amir Hamzah said on Thursday.

According to the Commander of the North Aceh district military command 0103, Lt. Col. Iwan Rosandriyanto, floods inundated some 17 subdistricts by Thursday afternoon.

Thousands of residents from tens of villages have taken refuge, he added.

Langkahan and Lhoksukon subdistricts are the areas worst affected by the floods.

In Langkahan, floodwaters have reached a height of one to two meters and submerged four villages, forcing 305 people to evacuate. In Lhoksukon, 4,547 people have fled their homes after floodwaters measuring 10 centimeters to 1.5 meters inundated 10 villages.

Floods also inundated 11 villages in Makmur subdistrict, forcing 1,050 people to evacuate to higher grounds.

In Muara Batu subdistrict, 234 people have taken refuge after floods inundated 17 villages there.

Iwan said 550 military personnel will be deployed to distribute logistics among flood victims in the 17 subdistricts.
