Palu, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Three villager in the district of Poso , Central Sulawesi have been shot dead by alleged terrorists, police said on Friday.

Dolfis Alipa, Heri Tobio and Ditla Tetembu of the village of Tangkura , in the sub-district of Poso Pesisir Selatan, were found dead on Thursday with bullet holes and knife wounds on their bodies, Poso police chief Adj. Sr Comr Ronny Suseno said.

They were farm workers and one was a student at a local university, Ronny said.

He said police are still looking after the armed gang who were believed to have run to a nearby jungle.

The bodies of the three victims had been evacuated and handed over to their relatives .

Ronny said the perpetrators were believed to be members of a terrorist group headed by Santoso, who has 20 followers hiding in the jungle.

Poso district has been a hot spot in the country with terrorists hiding in the jungle posing a threat to security.

Recently a man was shot dead by alleged terrorists in the village of Lembah Napu in the regency of Poso.

Ronny said the condition in the regency of Poso is currently normal but police are still after the perpetrators.

The incident took place in a hilly area around 10 kilometers from Poso.
