The President has instructed us not to be influenced ..."Bogor (ANTARA News) - An agreement has been made between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and police that KPK deputy chief Bambang Widjojanto will not be kept in detention after his questioning, according to police.
"I have told you we have made an agreement with KPK that detention (of Bambang Widjojanto) will not continue after his questioning," acting national police chief Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti said here on Friday.
He made the statement following a closed-door meeting with the President, Vice-President, coordinating minister for political, security, and legal affairs, attorney general, and KPK chief.
Badrodin confirmed that police arrested Bambang Widjojanto at 7.30 a.m. on Friday.
"This morning at 7.30, BW was arrested by police investigators from the Crime Investigation Department on charges of violating Article 242 in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code," he explained.
He added the case was connected to a dispute over the election of Kotawaringin Barat district head. Bambang Widjojanto was one of the lawyers in the case at the Constitutional Court.
"Based on investigations since 2010, it has been concluded that there is sufficient evidence to start judicial process in the case," he pointed out.
So, it was as a follow-up action that the Crime Investigation Department took action against him on Friday morning.
During the meeting, Badrodin revealed the President has instructed police not to be influenced and remain objective and exercise restraint so that questions will not be raised about the objectivity of its law enforcement actions.
"The President has instructed us not to be influenced and to exercise restraint so that no action that might worsen the situation will be required," he added.
