"This value is expected to continue to increase, in keeping with the growth of population that will need the support of better infrastructure and information technology services," President Director of NEC Corporation Nobuhiro Endo said here on Tuesday.
It is projected that in 2050, the population of Indonesia will increase to 321 million, which will raise energy needs by 1.8 times, gas emissions by 1.5 times, food needs by 1.7 times, and water needs by 1.6 times, he stated.
"To cope with these problems, information technology is needed to increase productivity, form social structure and lifestyle, and reduce consumption," Endo pointed out.
The growth in population, which prompts villagers to migrate to urban areas, will increase the Internets penetration as well, he affirmed.
Through the Internet, people can gather information from and send information to others, the corporations president director explained.
"With high level of penetration of cellular services, the government can benefit from connecting equipment and cellular networks, improve public infrastructure, and respond to their needs directly," Endo noted. (*)
