"It is not our solution. It is perhaps the president`s wish to keep the decision pending until the result of the pre-trial process is announced," the Team 9 member Tumpak Hatorangan said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo will wait for the outcome of the currently ongoing pre-trial process before making a decision regarding the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)-National Police (Polri) conflict, a Team 9 member stated here on Wednesday.

"It is not our solution. It is perhaps the presidents wish to keep the decision pending until the result of the pre-trial process is announced," the Team 9 member Tumpak Hatorangan noted after a meeting between Team 9 and the KPK leadership.

Team 9 was set up by the president to help settle the conflict between the KPK and Polri after national police chief candidate Commissioner General Budi Gunawan was named as a suspect in a corruption case and KPK Deputy Bambang Widjojanto was named a suspect by the police over an alleged false testimony case.

Hatorangan expressed confidence that the president will certainly arrive at a decision.

"Of course, the government will take a stance later. The KPK will not be left alone. It may be destroyed. The KPK must be saved. I think the government will take a decision. I do not know what it is," he stated.

The former KPK commissioner remarked that the KPK and Polri must follow the legal procedures.

"Now we have a pre-trial process," he noted.

Hatorangan noted that during the meeting, Team 9 only heard about the investigation into the corruption case linked to suspicious transactions allegedly involving Commission General Budi Gunawan.

"We were only informed by the (KPK) leadership about how the current investigation is going on, to see if there is an obstacle or not," he said.

He stated that there were reports that the KPK investigators dealing with the case had received threats.

"The talks included, among others, the information we received this morning about the KPK staff who felt uncomfortable about the current situation due to the terror threats and intimidation they have faced. The KPK staffs feeling has become our concern," Jimly Asshidiqie, another Team 9 member, pointed out.

In view of that, Team 9 appealed to all parties to reduce the tensions, he noted.

"We appeal to all sides in line with the presidents directives to reduce the tensions while awaiting the result of the pre-trial process. It will come soon. Perhaps, next Monday, a decision is likely to be made," he added.(*)
