Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has accused Commissioner General Budi Gunawans lawyers of being inconsistent with their propositions for seeking pretrial at a session here on Thursday.

Budi Gunawan has sought a pretrial in an effort to revoke the KPKs decision to name him as suspect in a corruption case.

Due to the KPKs decision Budi Gunawans inauguration as national police chief has been postponed by the President.

"Some of their propositions are inconsistent with what they wish to prove through the pretrial," Chatarina Girsang representing the KPK in the session said.

She said BGs lawyers had asked about money laundering to only witness Iguh C Purba presented by KPK that day while BGs case was a corruption case.

KPK plans to present more witnesses to defend its decision in the next session on Friday. BG meanwhile has presented expert witnesses in the session on Wednesday.

Chatarina said that BGs lawyers had also asked about other issues as well which are not found in their petition.

The naming of BG as suspect has led to a conflict with the police as the police later named KPK deputy Bambang Widjojanto as suspect in a false testimony case of 2010 while he was still a lawyer.

President Joko Widodo recently set up a Team of Nine experts to help find solutions of the conflict.

He said on Wednesday he would wait for the outcome of the currently ongoing pre-trial process before making a decision regarding the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)-National Police (Polri) conflict.

"It is not our solution. It is perhaps the presidents wish to keep the decision pending until the result of the pre-trial process is announced," one of the Team 9 members, Tumpak Hatorangan, said.

Hatorangan expressed confidence that the president will certainly arrive at a decision.

In a new development KPK deputy Bambang Widjojanto disclosed on Thursday that investigators and staff members of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), as well as their families, had received "serious security threats" from unknown persons.

"These threats are serious and worrying," he said.

The intensity of the threats made against the lives of KPK investigators and staff members, as well as their families, has escalated, he added.

"We receive threats frequently, but they are usually in context of a process of something we are dealing with," Widjojanto pointed out.

However, he noted that KPK commissioners have yet to conclude whether the threats were related to a specific case, or whether they are part of efforts to criminalize KPK commissioners.

The anti-corruption agency has informed and discussed this situation with other institutions that have the authority to handle security-related matters, including the Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM).(*)
