Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA News) - A hectare of marijuana plantation has been discovered in a joint military (TNI)-police operation in Lhokdrien hamlet, Gampong Simiraj village, Nisam Antara, in the Sumatran district of North Aceh.

The chief of the North Aceh 0103 Military Command. Lt. Col. Iwan Rosadriyanto, said the plantation was found at 10.30am on Tuesday (Feb 24).

"The plants discovered are 60 to one meter high and the number is in the thousands ready for being harvested but some of them are still small and seemed to have just being grown," he said.

The marijuana plantation was discovered during an operation by personnel from the North Aceh 0103 Military Command and Narcotic Unit of the Lhokseumawe Police Resort led by the chief of the Military Resort 25/NSA Command First Lieutenant Anhendrik and anti-narcotic unit chief of the Lhokseumawe Police Resort Adjunct Commissioner Sofyan.

Anhendrik said during the operations the owner of the plantation was not found believed to have fled before the security personnel arrived at the location.

He said there were 3,000 plants ready to be harvested standing 69 to one meter high and around 1,000 saplings rising 20 centimeter high.

"During the operation the plants were destroyed by burning them but some of them were taken to the Lhokseumawe Police Resort for use as evidence in further investigation," he said.

Before TNI personnel from the Nagan Raya 0116 District Military Command discovered and destroyed a hectare of marijuana plantation in Gampong Babah Suak in the sub-district of Beutong Ateuh, Banggalang, Nagan Raya.

The plantation was discovered in a steep hill around two hours of walk from the closet village. The owner of the plantation with plants as high as two meter was not found during the operation.(*)
