Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Sudirman Said told reporters that the project inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) would also provide non permanent jobs for 3 million people.
Jokowi kicked off the project at Pantai Gua Cemara, regency of Bantul, Yogyakarta on Monday.
The project is expected to catch up with fast growing power requirement in the country in 2019.
The power plants would be built in 210 locations in Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and other areas in eastern Indonesia.
The project will cost around Rp1,100 trillion, Sudirman said.
