"Malaysia has become the third-largest investing country in Indonesia, after Singapore and Japan," Hashim stated here on Tuesday.
Malaysian entrepreneurs, he noted, invested not only in trade sectors, but also in the fields of infrastructure, communications and banking. These reflect the high confidence of Malaysias investors in Indonesia.
Hashim also pointed out that Malaysia will increase the amount of investment in Indonesia.
"We know Indonesia is developing its infrastructure. We want the Indonesian government to involve Malaysian entrepreneurs in these projects," he emphasized.
Moreover, Hashim added that Malaysian businessmen have been involved in the development of infrastructure projects in Indonesia, including the construction of the Cikampek-Palimanan Toll Road, which is also funded by Malaysian banks.
"Indonesian and Malaysia can cooperate to develop infrastructure such ports, roads, and railway networks, as well as energy," he affirmed.
With regard to the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community, he said that Malaysia has been spreading awareness among its people about the free market region.
"We are building awareness so people understand what the ASEAN Economic Community is," he remarked.(*)
