Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Attorney Generals Office (AGO) on Wednesday arrested the former general manager of the aircraft procurement division of state-owned Merpati Nusantara Airlines Tony Sudjiarto who was at large for the past year.

Under the Supreme Courts verdict number 414 K/Pid.Sus/2014 dated May 7, 2014, Sudjiarto has been sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined Rp200 million, or an additional jail term of six months, for his involvement in a graft case related to the lease of Boeing 737-400s and 737-500s.

The convict was arrested at the Menara Peninsula Hotel in West Jakarta, on Wednesday, at 10:20 a.m. local time, Head of the Legal Information Center at the AGO Tony Tribagus Spontana remarked.

Spontana noted that the convict did not resist arrest when the intelligence team of the AGO took him into custody.

The team made the arrest after spying on him, he added.

Sudjiarto was later taken for questioning to the Oval Building of the AGO or the Office of the Junior Attorney General of Special Crimes.

The case is related to the lease of Boeing 737-400s and 737-500s from Thirdstone Aircraft Leasing Group (TALG), Washington, D.C., to PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines in 2007.(*)
