Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The selection of Army Chief of Staff General Gatot Nurmantyo as the candidate for the Indonesia's Armed Forces (TNI) chief's post has been earlier discussed with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), stated Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

"We have discussed it earlier and proposed it to the House of Representatives (DPR)," Kalla remarked after opening a meeting of the National Coordination Officers' meeting here on Wednesday.

Kalla noted that President Jokowi was indeed prudent to select the best figure as the candidate for the post of TNI chief.

General Moeldoko is now the chief of the Indonesia's Armed Forces who will leave the office in next August.

According to Kalla, Jokowi's reason to propose General Nurmantyo as the candidate for the TNI chief's post was based on the fact that he was keen to select the best figure who was considered capable.

In the meantime, Deputy Speaker of the House of the Representative Fahri Hamzah stated in Solo, Central Java, on Tuesday that President Jokowi has submitted the name of General Nurmantyo as the candidate for the TNI chief's post.

Fahri said the letter from President Jokowi will be immediately followed up by the DPR.

"We will take it to the leadership meeting. From thereon, it will later be taken to the Bamus (deliberation body) for a decision," he revealed.

He added that President Jokowi could give a confirmation on averting a problem similar to that recently faced during the appointment of the national police chief.
