Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Major General (ret) Sutiyoso is the right figure to replace me as the head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), according to Lieutenant General (ret) Marciano Norman.

"I think Sutiyoso is the right figure to replace me as the BIN chief because he has the capability to overcome future challenges in this institution," Marciano noted at the House of Representatives (DPRs) Commission-I meeting room here on Monday.

He affirmed that Sutiyoso is also the right figure to lend his optimal support to the government, particularly to the working programs of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

Marciano affirmed that he respected the prerogative right of President Jokowi as the head of state in appointing Sutiyoso as the sole candidate for the post of BIN chief through a meticulous and mature selection process.

"I believe the appointment of the candidate for the post of BIN head has been carried out through a careful and mature process, and eventually Sutiyoso was selected to replace me as the head of BIN," Marciano remarked.

President Jokowi has opined that former Jakarta governor Sutiyoso has the required experience to become the BIN chief, according to Presidential Communication Team member Teten Masduki.

In a press statement issued last Wednesday, Masduki said the president is of the viewpoint that Sutiyoso, as the BIN chief, will be able to detect and prevent threats to the nation, as he has the requisite experience in the field of military and civil administration.

He explained that Sutiyoso's experience in the military and as the former governor of Jakarta will enable him to ably conduct his tasks to secure and prevent the nation from outside threats.

"In accordance with the mandate of Law No.17/2011 on State Intelligence, President Jokowi has sent a letter seeking DPR to consider the nomination of Lt Gen (ret) Sutiyoso to replace Lt Gen (ret) Marciano Norman as the head of BIN," he revealed.

Masduki stated that as per the president's record, Sutiyoso's experience in military, intelligence, and civil administration will vastly help him in his new role as head of BIN, especially in the early detection of threats to national security and stability.
