Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics Ministry is continuing to strive to meet the need for national digital talents this year through a number of programs.

"The Communication and Informatics Ministry is continuing to conduct digital literacy programs for the basic level, the Digital Talent Scholarship for the intermediate level, and the Digital Leadership Academy for the advanced level," Director General of Information and Public Communication at the ministry Usman Kansong said in a written statement received on Saturday.

According to surveys conducted by the World Bank and McKinsey, Indonesia will need 9 million digital talents in the 15-year period from 2015 to 2030. To meet this need, Indonesia needs to produce 600 thousand digital talents every year.

The ministry can only meet a third of the annual need, or 200 thousand people, through its programs.

Thus, it is collaborating with educational institutions to fulfill the need for 400 thousand digital talents.

The response to Purwadhika Digital Technology School, which has just been inaugurated in the Special Economic Zone of Nongsa Digital Park in Batam City, Riau Islands, has been positive.

The digital school is expected to help meet the national need for digital talents.

The ministry has consistently hosted programs over the past few years to train people in the digital sector.

Since its launch in 2017, 12.5 million people have been trained under the digital talent development program. This year, the ministry targets the digital literacy program to cover 5.5 million people.

The Digital Talent Scholarship program is intended for college or high school graduates. The ministry is working with partners, including universities, to train 200 thousand participants this year.

The Digital Leadership Academy program is being conducted to train leaders and executives in both the public and private sectors. This year, 400 slots have been made available in the quota for the academy.
