Palu, C Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - A police officer and a civilian believed to be a member of terrorist group were killed in clash in Poso, Central Sulawesi, on Thursday.

Police have yet to confirmed the identity of the civilian victim, but police believed he was a member of notorious terrorist group under Santoso named Bado.

His body had been brought to a police hospital in Palu for autopsy, Central Sulawesi police chief Brig.Gen. Idham Aziz said.

The general said the body believed to be that of Bado was brought to the hospital for DNA identification with his relatives.

Bado is one of tens of suspected terrorists in the police list of wanted persons . He was also believed to be involved in a number of actions of violence in Poso, which is known to be rife with Islamic terrorists.

Idham said seized a number of firearms including anti tank and hundreds of active bombs from the camp of the suspected terrorists.

Exchanges of fires between police and the armed civilians already took place Aug. 17 until police succeeded in driving the terrorists from their main camp.

Idham Aziz said police saw a man believed to be the long sought terrorist leader Santoso alias Abu Wardah in the clash but he escaped.

There were around 30 suspected terrorists involved in the clash using anti tank weapons and hundreds of bombs.

The police victim was an officer from the police mobile brigade first inspector Theopani Tatontos.

The body of the police officer has been evacuated to the headquarter of police mobile corps in Poso.(*)
