BEIJING, Aug. 25, 2015 (Antara/PRNewswire) -- The sixth U.S.-China High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange (CPE) was recently held in Washington, D.C. where Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong attended the plenary session.

Considerable progress was achieved during this round of consultations: both parties confirmed that they implemented 104 agreements concluded in 2014, demonstrating the special appeal and the huge potential of cultural exchanges. In addition, both parties reached 119 new agreements covering seven areas including education, science and technology, culture, health, sports, women and youth.

The Chinese Vice Premier said that the CPE has become the pathfinder for promoting better understanding between Chinese and Americans and that the event is acting as a solid foundation for further deepening the cooperation between the two countries in several areas as well as a driver of a deepening of ties between the two countries. Looking forward, the Vice Premier expects China and the U.S. to make their relationship warmer, deeper, broader and more flexible.

During her visit to the U.S., the Vice Premier met with the first group of representatives of the flagship China-U.S. youth exchange program, ZhiXing China - Perfect World U.S.-China Young Leaders Fellowship, and welcomed them to China to personally experience the country. The program is one of the results of the fifth Annual U.S.-China High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange, and is a long-term exchange program. It is being implemented by the China Education Association for International Exchange and the Eisenhower Fellowships, and is funded by Chinese company Beijing Perfect World Network Technology Co., Ltd. The program is a proactive attempt by China and the U.S. to increase cultural exchanges by drawing in both business and private participants. The program fully and directly demonstrates the new trend in expanding the channel of cultural exchanges by leveraging social forces.

The Vice Premier mentioned during the event that she had expressed her opinion when meeting with senior American officials that in order to strengthen cultural exchanges, China and the U.S. both need to draw in business and private resources.

China-based Perfect World has been making efforts to enhance the country's cultural and educational exchanges over the past several years. The company took part in and supported the ZhiXing China program in the hope of undertaking its social responsibility at an international level and making contributions to the global communication of Chinese culture. The ultimate goal of the program is for the many cultures that make up world civilization to gain a better understanding of each other.
