Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA News) - The General Election Commission (KPU) in Surabaya will re-open a third round of registration for mayoral and vice mayoral candidates from September 8 to 10.
The decision to open the registration for mayoral and vice mayoral candidates came after the election supervisory committee pronounced a decision on the settlement of election disputes.
"The registration, which has originally planned to last from September 6 to 8, is just socialization. The registration will be opened from September 8 to 10," the Chief of KPU in Surabaya, Robiyan Arifin, said after attending a meeting held to solve the election disputes on Saturday.
The meeting was also attended by the election supervisory committee of Surabaya, an election supervisory board, and the representatives of the National Mandate Party and Democrat Party.
He expressed the hope that the pairs of mayoral and vice mayoral candidates would fulfill the necessary requirements soon.
The KPU in Surabaya said the election dispute arising between PAN and the Democratic Party has been completed.
A total of 2,069,246 residents of Surabaya have been registered as eligible voters for the 2015 mayoral election, according to the provisional voter list issued by the local election commission on Wednesday.
"The number has increased slightly from 2,017,450 recorded in the final voter list for the 2014 presidential election," a spokesperson for the local election commission, Nurul Amalia, said on Wednesday.
Based on the results of the open plenary to recapitulate the provisional voter list, the 2,069,246 eligible voters include 1,011,706 male voters and 1,057,540 female voters.
A provisional voter list will be announced in each area in Surabaya.(*)
