Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister of fisheries and marine resources Susi Pudjiastuti said here on Thursday that she had received a lawsuit from MV Hai Fa, the Chinese fishing boat, sentenced to pay a Rp200 million for fishing illegally in the country.

"How can it happen. We, in our sovereign country, have been claimed for enforcing the law," she said.

MV Fai Fas captain was fined Rp200 million by the court in Ambon in 2015.

Minister Susi said Hai Fa has filed a civil lawsuit against the Indonesian ministry of fisheries and marine resources with the Central Jakarta district court.

The ministry of fisheries and marine resources, she said, has submitted written evidence to the council that investigates the case at the court and is now preparing experts and witnesses to be presented at the trial.

"The trial session will be done every Tuesday," she added.

The Interpol has earlier issued a purple notice to Hai Fa. Minister Susi explained the purple notice orders law enforcers or international civilian communities in around 190 countries to gather information regarding Hai Fa which could be followed up for law enforcement purposes.

Hai Fa was last seen in the waters of Hong Kong and therefore the Interpol has also sent a letter to the Hong Kong National Central Bureau to monitor the ship and give information about its activities.

"While collecting new pieces of evidence we will ask for raising the purple notice to a red notice," she said.

She explained when a red notice is issued the ship must be seized.

Besides a lawsuit from the owner of MV Hai Fa, minister Susi said that the owner of Thai ship Silver Sea 2 that has allegedly violated a number of regulations and been seized by Indonesian law enforcers has also filed a demand for a pretrial of the case.

A number of criminal charges that would be filed against Silver Sea 2, the minister said, include shipping fish outside Indonesia without being accompanied by fish health certificate, conducting transshipment in the high seas and switching off VMS ship monitoring system while sailing in the Indonesian waters.

"The pretrial demand will not weaken our spirit to eradicate illegal fishing activities as international crimes," the minister said.

She said the Indonesian government has sent a letter to the Thai government to deplore alleged illegal fishing activities carried out by Thai-flagged Silver Sea 2.(*)
